Cartoon Network's Lobby - The Great Social Equalizer

Through luck and serendipity, I've had the opportunity to visit all the other major animation buildings in town in the past year or so, except for Cartoon Network. That changed last week, when I had a meeting at their Burbank building.

The best part of Cartoon Network's building is the lobby. After you enter, directly on the left are a couple couches, tables, drink machines, and a huge television set - playing Cartoon Network. After you see the receptionist, you wait in the lobby next to the huge television set - playing Cartoon Network.

Sure, there are tables and chairs there. You could relax and think. You could read some of the trade magazines that are sitting out there for you. But who wants to do that? THERE'S A HUGE TELEVISION SET - PLAYING CARTOON NETWORK. And you cannot resist it.

The professional woman in the expensive business suit who's there for a job interview? She's staring blankly at an episode of Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

The tired and unkempt courier in the work-suit who's there to pick up a package? She's staring blankly at an episode of Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

The bright-eyed writer with a laptop computer bag who's there to meet with a development executive? He's staring blankly at an episode of Ed, Edd, and Eddy. And telling himself that he totally has to remember to blog this...

Did I tell you I "met" Joss Whedon in that very lobby? Met is in quotes 'cause I don't know if an exchange of "hi"s counts as meeting. I didn't get to talk much more than that to him - Krypto the Superdog was on TV. 'Nuff said. :D

That is awesome! What I wouldn't give to have a photo of Joss Whedon sitting in the Cartoon Network lobby watching Krypto the Superdog...
