Death and Destruction at Smurf Village

Normally, I don't like to just copy/paste stuff from other blogs, but this is a great story that just hasn't gotten its due yet.

From Mark Evanier's blog is this story about a public service commercial that will be running in Belgium. The campaign is to raise money for UNICEF's efforts to help children maimed in Burundi. The commercial's hook? An animated sequence of Smurf Village getting bombed.

I won't bother to comment or write something funny to go along with this. Besides, are jokes really even necessary with a story like this?

Okay. One comment. Don't you just LOVE that Smurfette is lying face down on the left? Of all the Smurfs to die, the only girl in the village has to buy it. I think the living Smurfs would envy the dead...

The Day the Smurfs Cried
...I'd say this fits in well with that fanfiction link you sent me! I kinda figured Smurfette was dragging herself off screeen to check and see if her wardrobe of twenty identical outfits had remained unscathed.

Wouldn't the smell of Smurfs cooking bring Gargamel running over, knife and fork in hand?

Nicole - There's some weird running Smurf-theme in my life right now and it's scaring the #@$ outta me.

Phillip - Did Gargamel ever want to eat the Smurfs? I seem to remember he was all about turning them into gold. But if he DID eat the Smurfs, would they go well with white wine or red wine? I guess that would depend. Do Smurfs taste like chicken or steak?

Gold or food.... I do believe that Toyfare was dealing with this same argument in their letter columns a little while back. I think it was decided that Gargamel at one point wanted to eat them, then later turn them into gold. Kind of a weird backstory change, but okay... And I can only assume that Smurfs are dark meat, so they'd go better with red wine. But if you wanna be on the safe side, go with a Zinfandel. A red wine, yet light enough to go with whit wine fare. But you may be better off asking my dad such questions, as he's the one who converted a Tuff shed into a wine cellar for his homemade wines.
